Details

Þingvellir National Park

Departure from Reykjavik to UNESCO World Heritage Site Þingvellir National Park, where the oldest parliament in the world was founded and where you can clearly see tectonic plate boundaries on dry land. Surrounded by a ring of mountains, with its lava fields, grassy valleys, echoes of the sagas, the legendary river Oxara and Thingvallavatn lake, Thingvellir is a place of outstanding, awe-inspiring beauty, unique geological features, as well as immense historical significance.

Geysir

After Thingvellir, we cross the road of Lyngdalsheidi towards the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall where we stop for lunch. Geysir is the name of the Icelandic geyser which gave its name to the phenomenon. Seeing geyser Strokkur spout boiling water 25-30 m high in the air, every 4-8 minutes, is a fantastic nature experience and the Geysir area has numerous other hot springs.

Gullfoss waterfall

Gullfoss, Golden waterfall, is the queen of Iceland's waterfalls. It's located in the canyon of the mighty glacial river Hvita which originates at Langjokull glacier. Celebrated for its spectacular beauty, Gullfoss is one of Iceland’s main sightseeing attractions. The waterfall is two-tiered, 2.5 km long, cascading down over a 20 m wide, 32 m deep crevice. On a sunny day, the waterfall appears golden, and a rainbow can often be seen arching over the whole site.

Langjokull glacier

After seeing Iceland's most famous waterfall up close and listening to its roaring thunder, we drive a mountain track to Langjokull, Iceland's second largest glacier, driving on the snow and seeing the vastness of the glacier in its pristine beauty is an extraordinary experience, and a lot of fun.

Kerid and geothermal fields

On the way back to Reykavik, we make a short photo stop at the opaque aquamarine coloured crater lake Kerid. Depending on weather, snow and light conditions, we visit the geothermal area of either Nesjavellir on the way out in the morning or Hellisheidi in the afternoon on the way back.

Our driver-guides are knowledgeable about Iceland and will gladly adjust to your particular interest, whether it's nature, geology, history, current affairs - or 4x4 stuff.

Once in Reykjavik, we will drop you off at your hotel or a restaurant of your choice.
