Golden Circle

Different Icelandic tour companies offer the Golden Circle tour with slight variations but all of them will stop at Thingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss. Some include stops at the volcano Hengill and Nesjavellir geothermal power plant

which is harnessed to provide Reykjavik with both hot water and electricity without polluting. You can read in more details about these places here on Iceland on the web and find all the tour operators through our link directory.

The following is a description of the Golden Circle offered by Nature Explorer on Super-Jeeps:

Experience many of Iceland´s natural gems in a magnificient day tour – and do it in style and comfort of Nature Explorer´s Super Jeeps. We head east towards the volcano Hengill where we stop at Nesjavellir where we can learn about how the enourmous geothermal power is harnessed to provide Reykjavik with both hot water and electricity without polluting. From there it´s only a short drive to Thingvellir, Iceland´s ancient parliament of Althingi established in 930 AD which makes it the oldest parliament in the world. Thingvellir is also known for it´s natural beauty and geographical uniqueness. After driving around Lake Thingvallavatn we cross the mountain road of Lyngdalsheidi towards Geysir where we stop for lunch. Geysir is “the geyser” which gave name to the phenomenon. After lunch it´s only a short drive to is Iceland’s most famous waterfall, Gullfoss which cascades down 32 metres into the mighty glacial river Hvíta. After seeing Gullfoss up close and listening to it´s roaring thunder we drive a mountain track to Iceland´s second largest glacier, Langjökull where you have the option of renting a snowmobile and blaze across the white plains of the glacier. On the way back to Reykavik we make a short photo stop at the explosion crater Kerið, which dates back approximately 3000 years. If time allows we have the option of visiting the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi before passing Hellisheidi and reaching Reykjavik. Once in Reykjavik we will drop you off at your hotel or a restaurant of your choice.
