Tour description

This tour is a must for all nature lovers and anyone interested in Icelandic folklore, history and mythology. You will learn about the cultural environment in which the rich folk traditions of this part of Iceland were created.

Your guide, dressed as a woman from the 19th century, takes you on a walk through the city and up to the slopes above Isafjordur. On the way she will show you some curious places and give you an insight into the history of Isafjordur. Tales and stories of ancient and modern times will be told, from the Westfjords in particular.

You will learn about the people and their living conditions, their beliefs and their culture, known from the folklore. In bygone times, the Westfjords were famous for wizards and many legends have emerged. As you look around you in this remote, sparsely populated spot, with sheer cliffs and peculiar rock formations towering over shore and people and fathomless fjords stretching into the distance, you might get a sense of Iceland's otherworldliness. You might even experience a slight shudder when told of ghosts! You are sure to be enthralled, not only by the tales of mystical creatures, but by the breathtakingly beautiful scenery all around you.

On the mountain slopes above the town, in the middle of nature, you will see the locations of our stories while enjoying the unforgettable views over the fjord and the surrounding valleys.
