A fantastic two day tour from Reykjavik to the magical Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, enabling you to experience the waterfalls, glaciers and other amazing scenic features of South Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is one of the great natural wonders of Iceland, a chosen location for several major films. Filled with light-reflecting icebergs, the lagoon is an extraordinary sight at all times, and perhaps particularly enchanting in summer, mirroring the Midnight Sun.

We travel through the vastly contrasting scenery of South Iceland to the exceptional sights of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, the largest glacial lake in Iceland, located at the south end of the Vatnajokull glacier, between Skaftafell nature reserve in Vatnajokull National Park and the coastal town of Hofn. Day 1 - Journey & the sights along Iceland's South Coast

After leaving Reykjavik, we pass Hengill volcano and the town of Hveragerdi, known for its hot springs, as we travel towards the town of Selfoss. We cross the Thjorsa River, the longest river in Iceland (around 230 km), and stop in the town of Hvollsvollur for a coffee break. We continue to the graceful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, plunging down 65 m, over ancient sea cliffs. Seljalandsfoss waterfall is unique in that it's possible to walk behind the waterfall and view the striking scenery through its water-veil: to the east lies the lush countryside; to the north rises the Eyjafjallajokull glacier.

At Skogar we see the impressive Skogafoss waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, plummeting down a 62 m height. Next we drive through Myrdalur valley, with a view of Myrdalsjokull glacier on clear days, which conceals the famed Katla volcano. Then on to the village of Vik, surrounded by sandy beaches with striking basalt column formations as well as the towering Reynisdrangar peaks. Then, across Myrdalssandur sand plains, an area of black lava sand and ash (c. 700 sq. km); the giant lava field of Eldgjarhraun, and the town of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. We cross Skeidararsandur, and pass the bridge over the River Skeidara, the longest bridge in Iceland (900 m), approaching Skaftafell nature reserve in the Vatnajokull National Park. The glacier tongues give the Park a majestic appearance. We will have a short stop in the magnificent surroundings at Skaftafell.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is located at the end of Breidamerkujokull glacier. It's about 18 sq. km in area, and more than 250 m deep. Huge pieces of ice break loose from the glaciers, filling the Lagoon with floating icebergs of all shapes and sizes. You get a chance to enjoy the scenery before arriving at your accommodation nearby. Dinner is available for purchase (dinner is not included in the tour price). After dinner, you can relax and enjoy a stroll in the spellbinding surroundings.

Day 2 - Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & glacier hike

After breakfast we explore the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Weather permitting, it's possible to enjoy a 40 minute boat ride sailing between the floating icebergs. We will also take a walk alongside the lake and on the black sand shores and look out for the seals which can often be spotted in the Lagoon.

Then we start our journey west towards Reykjavik, but the trip is far from over! This is the moment when we pull out the crampons for one hour long glacier hike. The experience is not to be missed, since the views are breathtaking!

If there is enough time and the weather conditions allow, we will also visit Dyrholaey peninsula, where the ocean has carved a "doorway" into the cliff.

Drop off at your hotel around 21:00.

Please note
